Description:

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from the films!
Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains who ever lived – the teenaged children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil have never ventured off the island… until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

CYT Colorado Springs Spring 2025 Audition Information

Students ages 8-18 who are registered for a spring class are eligible to audition for our spring productions, Descendants and Tuck Everlasting. Students may audition for both shows, but will only be cast in one. If you want to audition for both shows, you will need to sign up for audition spots for both shows and audition on both audition days. If you audition for both shows, you may be called back for roles in both shows and the teams will make sure you can get to all necessary callbacks.
On the audition form, students will have the option of choosing whether or not they will accept any role. We encourage everyone to be willing to be a part of the cast in any role, but if there truly are roles that you would not accept, this is your one chance to tell us that. If you say you will only accept certain roles, those must be listed and if you are not cast in those roles, you will not be cast in the show. If you say you will accept any role and then drop the show after the cast list comes out, you will be ineligible to audition for the next two school year sessions of shows. In this case, that would be fall 2025 and winter 2026 shows. We are hoping that no one drops a show after casting and is willing to be a part of this exciting experience wherever you are cast.
Students will also have a spot on the audition form to state their show preference if they are auditioning for both shows. This does not mean that you will be cast in the preferred show, but may be used by the artistic teams when deciding on show ensembles. In the end, decisions will be made for the best of both shows. We will not take friend requests into consideration when placing students into shows, so if being with your friends is your highest priority, choose one show to audition for with your friends. Otherwise be ready to make wonderful new friends with your castmates in whichever show you are cast in.
We are hoping to be able to cast everyone who auditions as long as they are willing to accept any role and don’t have excessive conflicts, but depending on the numbers of auditioners, there is a possibility that not everyone will be cast.
Conflicts- All partial or full rehearsal conflicts must be listed on the audition form. No conflicts may be added after auditions so any possible conflicts (camping, SAT test, Prom, your graduation, your cousin’s graduation, etc.) must be listed. More than two conflicts may affect casting. The length of rehearsal time missed, when in the rehearsal process the conflicts fall and what is being rehearsed during the conflict times all will be considered.

The Descendants audition process…
  1. Register for a spring session class
  2. Sign up for an audition time either during the class registration process or after you are registered in your family account.
  3. Complete audition form by March 11th including uploading a required video dance audition, uploading an optional video monologue, and uploading the backing track for your in person vocal audition. The audition form with the dance instruction video and monologues will be sent out 1-2 weeks before auditions.
  4. In person audition on March 14. This includes a one minute vocal audition with the musical theater song of your choice. There is no in person dance audition or monologues for this show.
  5. Callbacks- not all auditioners will need to be seen for a callback. Callbacks will be posted on the show page of our website by midnight Friday night, March 15th. If you get a callback for either dance or a role, that will be on Saturday, March 15. Please note: ensemble roles and possibly some featured roles will be cast without needing a callback.
  6. The cast list will be posted by 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 16.

FAQ
Can I audition for a specific role in one show and accept any role in the other?
  • Yes! Example: if you would like to audition for Winnie Foster in Tuck, but would prefer to be in Descendants if you do not get that one role, you could fill out your audition form for Tuck saying you would only accept Winnie Foster. You would fill out your Descendants form saying you would accept any role. In the notes section you would say you would prefer to be in Descendants if you do not get the role of Winnie Foster. The important thing is that you are clear about the roles you would accept. It is also important to know that if you would only accept certain roles in both shows, if you do not get one of those roles, you will not be cast in either show.
If something comes up after casting, can I add a rehearsal conflict?
  • No. All conflicts must be listed on the audition form. No conflicts may be added. If there is a birthday party or dance or something you know you want to go to but don’t know the date yet, you can add it as a “maybe” conflict by listing it in the conflict notes section of the audition form. Then as soon as you know the date, or you know you don’t have that conflict anymore, please let your show coordinator know ASAP. It will count as a conflict for casting.
If I am not auditioning for a show, can I sign up for crew?
  • Yes! If you are age 13+ and are taking a spring class, you can sign up for crew the same way you would sign up to audition. Signing up for crew does not guarantee a spot, but signing up for crew before auditions does give you priority. These are our priority levels…
  1. Students ages 13+ who are taking a spring class and sign up for crew before auditions
  2. Students 13+ who auditioned but were not cast in either show
  3. Alumni who let us know before auditions that they would like to volunteer
  4. Students 13+ who are taking a spring class but did not audition for a show or sign up before auditions (priority within this group goes to those with siblings in the show and then by age with older students getting priority.)
  5. Siblings of cast members who are not taking a spring class
  6. Students who are in the other show for the current session (ex. Students in Tuck who want to crew for Descendants)
  7. Other CYT students who are not taking a current session class
  8. Students/Adults from outside the CYT community
