Wig Design and Hair Styling for Theater

In this hands-on theater class, students will explore the art of wig design and hair styling for stage productions. From historical accuracy to character-driven transformations, students will learn essential techniques for creating and styling wigs and real hair that enhance theatrical performances. 
Topics covered include: fun hairstyles for stage performance (braids, buns, hair extensions and more), wig prep and styling, hairstyling through the decades, as well as show-specific looks and contemporary styles. Students will also learn how to maintain and care for wigs during a production. The hairstyling portion of the class will be spent working on our own/others hair, as well as mannequin hair. Hot tools (curling irons, straighteners) and non-heat techniques will be taught and practiced. Each week we will also explore a different musical to learn the styles and wigs used (think Wicked, Hairspray, Little Mermaid, Six, Anastasia, etc.) Whether you’re interested in design or performance, this course will deepen your understanding of how wigs and hairstyles bring characters to life on stage.
